Assistant Chief Engineer – JLL What this job involves: The Assistant Chief Engineer supports the daily operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of critical building systems within a commercial facility environment. This role is responsible for ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient performance of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems while supporting operational excellence and client satisfaction. The Assistant Chief Engineer will help lead maintenance activities, mentor team members, support preventive maintenance programs, and assist the Chief Engineer in maintaining compliance with safety standards, service level agreements, and site performance goals. This position requires a hands-on, multi-skilled professional with strong technical expertise and a commitment to delivering best-in-class facility operations. What your day-to-day will look like: Perform preventive maintenance, repairs, and troubleshooting on HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and other building systems and equipment. Monitor building automation systems (BAS), respond to alarms, and diagnose operational issues to maintain system performance. Utilize CMMS systems to manage and complete preventive and corrective maintenance work orders in a timely manner. Support and lead facility operations activities while mentoring and sharing technical knowledge with engineering team members. Conduct facility rounds, identify operational or safety concerns, and initiate corrective actions as needed. Complete general maintenance tasks including painting, pressure washing, special cleaning, and tenant service requests. Ensure compliance with safety policies, OSHA regulations, refrigerant log requirements, and JLL safety procedures while maintaining a clean and safe work environment. Required Qualifications: High School diploma or GED equivalent with technical training or related degree. Universal EPA/CFC certification required. Minimum of four (4) years of commercial building engineering experience with strong technical knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical systems. Valid Tennessee Driver’s License with the ability to respond to emergency service calls within 45 minutes. Experience using Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) and Microsoft Office applications including Outlook, Word, and Excel. Ability to work independently, support an on-call rotation, and assist with leadership responsibilities in the absence of the Chief Engineer. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds frequently, climb ladders, and work in mechanical rooms, outdoor environments, and varying weather conditions. Preferred Qualifications: Two years of trade school education or documented apprenticeship in HVAC, electrical, plumbing, refrigeration, or related skilled trades. Experience working with building automation and controls systems. Knowledge of pumps, motors, air handlers, chillers, cooling towers, and associated electrical systems. Strong customer service and communication skills with the ability to support tenant and client relationships professionally. Experience supporting cost savings initiatives and operational efficiency programs. Ability to train, mentor, and provide hands-on instruction to maintenance team members.
